Scientist, Medicinal Chemistry
POSITION SUMMARY:
ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and execute syntheses of complex organic molecules on a milligram to multi-gram scale
Design and synthesize molecules with druglike properties, using knowledge of SAR, ADME, PK, and in-silico and in-vitro predictors for multiparameter optimization.
Prepare reports and presentations for leadership and participate in internal/external meetings
Operate medicinal chemistry tools and techniques to plan and design synthetic targets
Utilize modelling software to facilitate structure-based drug design (SBDD) efforts.
Perform rapid and critical hit-to-lead evaluation of chemical matter identified through HTS, DEL, and fragment screens.
Integrate collaborative chemistry team to synthesize new analogs and probe compounds for discovery projects
Support the advancement of lead compounds through in-vitro and in-vivo evaluation to identify clinical development candidates.
Plan, coordinate, and manage research activities conducted at CROs.
Apply standard laboratory techniques to purify compounds with state-of-the-art techniques to characterize intermediates and final compounds
REQUIREMENTS: PROVEN EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & EDUCATION
Bachelors with a minimum of 5 years’ experience; or a master’s with a minimum of 2 years of experience; or a PhD with a minimum 0 - 1 yrs. related experience within synthetic organic chemistry
Possess strong synthetic organic chemistry expertise and apply the latest scientific methodologies to solve challenging medicinal chemistry problems.
Experience in advanced synthetic, purification, and spectroscopic techniques used in the preparation and characterization of complex organic molecules (HPLC, NMR, MS instrumentation) is required
Familiarity with standard laboratory instrumentation and software (SciFinder, Chemdraw)
Ability to design synthetic targets and successfully execute their syntheses
Proven experience with independently troubleshooting and optimizing syntheses and reactions
Deep understanding of the entire drug discovery R&D process, including ADME/PK, pharmacology, CMC, formulations, and computational chemistry
Familiarity with photo-crosslinking probe synthesis preferred
Ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary team in support of overall research activities and project goals

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Drug Discovery, the candidate will be responsible for the synthesis and characterization of small molecules that bind RNA. He/She will integrate a broad understanding of synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry with the goal of developing probe molecules for a pharmacological target of interest. This is a direct laboratory position based in our Jupiter, Florida research site.
*Title will be commensurate with experience.
