Scientist, Cell Biology
ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establish cellular assays to demonstrate in vitro proof of concept for therapeutic leads and characterize the cellular activity and downstream disease-relevant biology to help prioritize candidates for in vivo studies.
Plan, execute, and critically interpret experiments to understand the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic activities of novel therapeutics to drive drug discovery milestones.
Design and execute assays utilizing in vitro models (primary cells, IPSCs) to support preclinical systems, enable target identification, and assay development.
Lead the development and scaling of novel cell-based assays.
Cultivate scientific and technical expertise to identify novel research avenues to pursue within RNA biology.
Analyze and document experimental data generated and ensure timely documentation in electronic laboratory notebooks and internal technical reports.
Evaluate data and provide clear reports that can be shared and transferred to and from cross-functional teams.
Present data and strategy to scientists and management in appropriate internal and external venues (technical meetings, project team meetings, etc.) as appropriate.
Take ownership and manage multiple projects with collaborators to drive innovation.
Function as a technical resource within own work group and cross functional teams.
REQUIREMENTS: PROVEN EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & EDUCATION:
PhD with a minimum 2 years’ experience in cell biology or a related field. Prior experience with RNA biology preferred but not required.
Demonstrated strong understanding of complex scientific procedures with technical proficiency in molecular and cell biology.
Ability to design novel assays for probing small molecule-RNA interactions.
Direct experience in ex vivo analysis of pharmacodynamic and molecular markers.
Proficient in current cell biology and cell engineering, including working with primary and patient-derived cells
Experience with an array of molecular and cell biology methods, including RNA splicing isoform analysis (RT-PCR, RT-qPCR) of cells and tissues, RNA-FISH of cells and tissues, and genotyping of tissues.
Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
A goal-oriented team player who is self-motivated and has a strong desire to create new and useful tools for molecular biology.

Ability to work independently and collaborate in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Research, the Scientist, Cell Biology will bring their cellular biology expertise to deliver high quality, decision-driving studies to define pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic (PK/PD) relationships. The candidate will be responsible for applying the latest knowledge and techniques in the field. The individual will advance the assigned program and contribute to the identification of a lead or development candidate. This is a direct laboratory position based in our Cambridge, MA site.
*Title will be commensurate with experience.
