Associate Director / Director Medicinal Chemistry
ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Drive state-of-the-art multi-parameter medicinal chemistry optimization with creativity, innovation, and in-depth analysis of data
Implement strategies, manage research efforts within the project teams, and coordinate efforts with contributing platform groups
Contribute to compound design and synthetic route identification in an impactful manner
Ensure project progression by prioritizing critical path activities in medicinal chemistry
Drive and facilitate project team productivity, execution with a sense of urgency, teamwork, accountability, high scientific rigor, and excellence
Manage external chemistry teams at CROs with clear, open, and direct communication to ensure a high-level productivity
Partner and build strong relationships across the R&D organization to work collaboratively and efficiently across functions to achieve company goals
Function as an impactful contributor and leader of project teams, as well as transverse and cross-functional initiatives
Communicate effectively to provide medicinal chemistry strategies, updates, and novel ideas in meetings with colleagues and partners; encouraging curiosity and challenging the status quo in order to foster innovative drug discovery
Maintain scientific and technical expertise through familiarity with scientific literature and attending conferences
Perform all duties in keeping with the Company’s core values, policies and all applicable regulations
REQUIREMENTS: PROVEN EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & EDUCATION:
PhD in organic chemistry with a minimum of 10-12 years of industry experience
Demonstrated leadership in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery with a strong record of scientific innovation, and delivery of clinical candidates
Experience implementing medicinal chemistry strategies across all stages of drug discovery from hit to lead and lead optimization to candidate selection
Experience working as part of multi-disciplinary drug discovery teams and adept at using diverse data from biology, DMPK, biochemistry and pharmacology to drive medicinal chemistry strategies
Experience managing and prioritizing activities of external chemistry teams at a CRO
Excellent synthetic chemistry skills and creativity are required
Experience using tools for cheminformatics, structure-based, and computer-aided design
Appreciation of the entire drug discovery R&D process, including ADME/PK, pharmacology, CMC, and formulation
Demonstrated ability in working with highly skilled teams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and technical environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaborate in a multi-disciplinary environment.
Critical thinker with a demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate across teams.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Research, the Associate Director / Director in Medicinal Chemistry will be a key member of our Drug Discovery and Research teams tasked with devising and driving medicinal chemistry strategies across novel drug discovery projects with the goal of advancing through hit-to-lead and lead optimization studies to clinical candidate selection. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of success in medicinal chemistry with accomplishments resulting in high impact on drug discovery programs and/or delivery of high-quality development candidates. The candidate will work collaboratively within an energetic, matrixed research organization, helping guide teams and communicate the importance of our work to a broad audience. This position will be based in Boston/Cambridge, MA.
