Director, Medicinal Chemistry

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Senior Vice president of Drug Discovery, the Director of Medicinal Chemistry will be key member of our research group, responsible for devising and driving medicinal chemistry strategies across novel drug discovery projects with the goal of advancing through hit-to-lead and lead optimization studies to clinical candidate selection. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of success in medicinal chemistry with accomplishments resulting in high impact on drug discovery programs and/or delivery of high-quality development candidates. This position will be based in Boston/Cambridge, MA.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive state-of-the-art multi-parameter medicinal chemistry optimization with creativity, innovation and in-depth analysis of data•    

  • Contribute to compound design and synthetic route identification in an impactful manner

  • Communicate effectively to provide project updates, medicinal chemistry strategies and novel ideas in meetings with colleagues and partners

  • Ensure project progression by prioritizing critical path activities in medicinal chemistry 

  • Manage outsourced chemistry teams at CROs with clear, open and direct communication to ensure a high-level productivity

  • As part of a multidisciplinary team, work collaboratively and effectively across functions to achieve company goals

  • Perform all duties in keeping with the Company’s core values, policies and all applicable regulations

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: 

  • PhD in organic chemistry with >10 years with a strong record of scientific innovation, and delivery of clinical candidates

  • Demonstrated leadership in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery and a track record of success based performance and accomplishment

  • Experience implementing medicinal chemistry strategies across all stages of drug discovery from hit to lead and lead optimization to candidate selection

  • Experience working as part of multi-disciplinary drug discovery teams and skilled at using diverse data from biology, DMPK, biochemistry and pharmacology to drive medicinal chemistry strategies.

  • Extensive experience in the use of cheminformatics, structure-based, and computer-aided design tools

  • Excellent synthetic chemistry skills and creativity are required

  • Understanding of the entire drug discovery R&D process, including ADME/PK, pharmacology, CMC, formulations and computational chemistry

  • Experience managing external chemistry teams
