Principal Scientist, Biophysics
The Principal Scientist, Biophysics will be key member of our Research group, responsible for the biophysical and mechanistic characterization of small molecules binding to RNA. The Principal Scientist will integrate a broad understanding of biophysics with RNA dynamics, enzymology and structural biology with the goal of understanding the molecular mechanism of action and corresponding pharmacology of a diverse set of RNA targets. Industry experience in biophysical biology is essential. This is a hands-on laboratory position based in our Jupiter, Florida research site.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.
Establish and track towards key priorities for biophysics studies across multiple programs
Design and implement biophysical characterization of RNA-ligand and RNA-protein interactions using an array of biophysical techniques such as BLI, SPR, etc
Investigate binding kinetics and characteristics in vitro and in cellular models
Close collaboration with team members in structural biology, biochemistry and chemistry to build robust screening paradigms and drive SAR, in order to advance hit-to-lead and lead optimization activities.
Drive deep mechanistic understanding of ligand binding and collaborate with colleagues to integrate this into pharmacology studies, both in vitro and in vivo
Interpret study results and develop further recommendations for each program
Independently communicate results in the form of oral presentations and industry-standard study reports
Prepare reports and presentations for leadership and participate in internal/external meetings
Make intellectual contributions to all aspects of hit finding and lead discovery

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
PhD in biophysics, biochemistry, or a related field.
At least 5 years of industry experience, preferably in the field of RNA biology.
Experience developing, running and interpreting biophysical characterizations of small molecules in an industrial setting is essential; hands on experience is required
Familiarity with key concepts and computational tools related to RNA structure, repeat expansion, alternative splicing, translation or other areas of RNA biology is strongly preferred.
Ability to function in a scientific expert role as part of an interdisciplinary team, contributing to the execution of experiments in support of overall research activities and project goals.
