Minimum Requirements:

  1. PhD in neuroscience, pharmacology, cell biology, or a related field. 

  2. At least 5 years of industry experience, preferably in the field of RNA biology.

  3. Experience developing, running and interpreting pharmacological characterizations of small molecules in an industrial setting is essential; hands on experience is required.

  4. Demonstrated track record of implementing innovative methods for assessment of pharmacodynamic markers and disease biomarkers, with a view to maximum translational confidence.

  5. A capacity for integration of clinical concepts and disease understanding into preclinical study design.

  6. Familiarity with key concepts related to RNA structure, repeat expansion, alternative splicing, translation or other areas of RNA biology is strongly preferred.

  7. Ability to function in a scientific expert role as part of an interdisciplinary team, contributing to the execution of experiments in support of overall research activities and project goals.

Principal Scientist, Pharmacology


The Principal Scientist, Pharmacology will be key member of our Research group, responsible for concepting and executing proof of concept studies across multiple programs, with an eye to future translational medicine strategies. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of success in in vitro and in vivo pharmacology, preclinical biology and biochemistry. An understanding of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic relationships will be key. Experience in moving from in vitro to in vivo pharmacology is essential. Expansion is building its HQ in Metro Boston, Massachusetts and has its research facility located in Jupiter, Florida. This position can be based in Jupiter, FL or in the Boston, MA area with regular travel to Florida.


Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  

  • Contribute to the strategic analysis of in vitro pharmacology data and decision to move to in vivo testing.

  • Manage, in collaboration with our partners, mouse colonies and breeding strategies in accordance with the needs and timelines of the preclinical program.

  • Design and conduct tolerability, PK/PD and efficacy studies in mice.

  • Lead tissue analysis by RT-qPCR, RNA-Seq, histology, fluorescence, in situ hybridization, biochemical analysis, ELISA etc. Qualification of these assays as fit for purpose.

  • Design and implement innovative methods to confirm target engagement and on-target biology.

  • Contribute to assessment of potential new targets, based on human genetics, biological pathways and translatability of animal models.

  • Identify, validate and facilitate testing of complementary or new animal models, either in-house or via collaboration with outside partners.

  • Comply with all applicable regulations;  ensure that work performed is conducted in a safe and compliant manner; maintain proper records.

  • Interpret study results and develop further recommendations for each program.

  • Independently communicate results in the form of oral presentations and industry-standard study reports.
